Ohio State University has distinguished itself with four players named to the prestigious first-team Big Ten All-America team announced this Monday. The selections highlight the Buckeyes’ strong presence on the national stage, led by standout defensive back Caleb Downs and fellow teammates Jeremiah Smith, Kayden McDonald, and Arvell Reese.

Downs, who recently earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors, has secured a first-team All-America nod for two consecutive seasons at Ohio State. Notably, he began his collegiate career at Alabama before transferring. The Buckeyes’ quartet joins a diverse first-team roster comprising athletes from 18 different schools.

Indiana’s quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the recent Heisman Trophy winner, headlines the team. Mendoza played a pivotal role in Indiana’s undefeated 13-0 season and top seed in the College Football Playoff, topping the nation with 33 touchdown passes after transferring from California.

Ohio State’s representation underscores its continued football excellence, with the program maintaining its streak alongside peers Miami and Notre Dame, who also secured first-team selections for the fourth straight year.

Other notable first-time first-team honorees include Western Kentucky’s punter Cole Maynard, Navy’s defensive lineman Landon Robinson, and Hawaii’s kicker Kansei Matsuzawa, marking a historic achievement for their respective programs.

The AP All-America team, selected by a panel of 52 collegiate Top 25 poll voters, showcases the nation’s elite talent across all positions. From offense to defense, the team features a blend of seasoned veterans and rising stars, illustrating the depth of college football talent in the 2025 season.
