US Peace Envoy Engages Zelensky Amidst Intensified Russian Assaults as Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held what he described as a “very constructive” phone conversation with Steve Witkoff, a peace envoy for Donald Trump, and Jared Kushner, the former US president’s son-in-law. The discussions primarily focused on strategies to ensure Russia’s adherence to any future peace agreement aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine, with President Zelensky expressing his firm commitment to ongoing cooperation with the United States.

Millenium TV has learned that the call coincided with Ukrainian officials participating in their third day of talks in Miami, centered on US efforts to broker a peace deal with Russia. Despite these diplomatic overtures, Moscow has shown no indications of concessions, continuing its extensive bombardments across Ukraine. President Zelensky underscored Ukraine’s resolve, stating, “Ukraine is determined to keep working in good faith with the American side to genuinely achieve peace.” He further elaborated that “many aspects and key points that could ensure an end to the bloodshed and eliminate the threat of a new Russian full-scale invasion” were covered during the discussions.

Overnight, Russia unleashed further air and missile strikes on Ukraine, a campaign that drew swift condemnation from Ukraine’s European allies. French President Emmanuel Macron conveyed his “full solidarity” to President Zelensky during a recent call, asserting that “France is determined to work with all partners to secure de-escalation measures and to impose a ceasefire.” President Macron also confirmed plans to join President Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for talks in London on Monday. This high-level meeting is expected to address ongoing discussions between US and Ukrainian officials regarding a post-war security agreement for Ukraine.

Two weeks prior, the four leaders virtually convened to explore the concept of a European peacekeeping force, which could be deployed to Ukraine following a potential ceasefire. Sir Keir Starmer has consistently emphasized Ukraine’s right to self-determination, highlighting the “vital role” such a multinational peacekeeping force would play in guaranteeing the nation’s security. Conversely, Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected this proposal, declaring that any foreign troops deployed to Ukraine would be considered “legitimate targets.”

Ukrainian authorities reported a barrage of 653 drones and 51 missiles launched by Russia on Friday night. One significant strike obliterated the main station building and damaged rolling stock at a railway hub in Fastiv, southwest of Kyiv. Additionally, Ukraine’s energy ministry confirmed that Russian attacks targeted energy facilities across eight regions, leading to widespread power outages. Russian officials, in turn, claimed their targets included military-industrial sites, energy infrastructure, and port facilities. Separately, US and Ukrainian negotiators called for Russia to demonstrate a “serious commitment to long-term peace” following inconclusive talks in Moscow. Meanwhile, the third day of discussions in Florida between Ukrainian and US officials continues, aimed at securing Ukraine’s acceptance of a US-backed peace proposal. Steve Witkoff previously described two days of talks with Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine’s national security council, as “constructive,” with both parties agreeing on a “framework of security arrangements” and discussing “necessary deterrence capabilities to sustain a lasting peace.” Millenium TV understands that the prospect of ending the conflict ultimately hinges on Russia’s willingness to take “steps towards de-escalation and cessation of killing.”
