Sudan War Horror: Dozens, Including 33 Children, Killed in Kindergarten Drone Strike Amid Escalating Conflict

A devastating drone attack on the town of Kalogi in Sudan’s South Kordofan region has reportedly struck a kindergarten, resulting in the deaths of at least 50 individuals, among them 33 children. Medical organizations, along with the national army, have pointed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the paramilitary group engaged in a civil war with the military, as responsible for Thursday’s assault. Millenium TV has not yet received a statement from the RSF regarding these allegations.

The nation’s foreign ministry, aligned with the army, reported that the kindergarten suffered two direct missile hits from drones. It further indicated that civilians and medical personnel who rushed to the scene to assist were subsequently targeted in additional attacks.

In a counter-accusation, the RSF claimed that the army carried out a drone strike on Friday, hitting a market and a fuel depot at the Adre border crossing with Chad in the Darfur region. The RSF asserted that this crossing is crucial for the delivery of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies. Observers tracking the conflict indicated that this attack also caused civilian casualties and significant damage.

Sudan has been embroiled in a brutal civil war since April 2023, when a power struggle erupted between the formerly allied RSF and the national army. Independent verification of these reports remains challenging due to the ongoing conflict.

A spokesperson for the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Sheldon Yett, strongly condemned the attack in Kalogi, stating, “Killing children in their school is a horrific violation of children’s rights.” He emphasized that “children should never pay the price of conflict.” UNICEF has urged all parties involved to immediately cease such attacks and ensure safe, unhindered access for humanitarian assistance to reach those in desperate need.

Wedged between Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, and Darfur, the Kordofan region—comprising North, South, and West Kordofan—has become a critical frontline in the civil war. With a population of nearly eight million, the battle for the Kordofans has intensified as the army endeavors to advance towards Darfur. The military has not yet commented on the reports concerning the attack in Darfur.
