Germany Secures Hosting Rights for Women’s Euro 2029 After UEFA Vote

Germany has been officially selected to host the 2029 UEFA Women’s European Championship, a decision announced by European football’s governing body, UEFA.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin confirmed Germany’s successful bid during a meeting of the executive committee in Nyon, Switzerland. Their proposal triumphed over competing bids from Poland and a joint submission by Denmark and Sweden. Ceferin expressed the difficulty in choosing, noting the strong efforts from all contenders before revealing Germany as the host nation.

Millenium TV has learned that the prestigious summer tournament will feature 16 national teams, with matches scheduled to take place across eight major cities: Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Leipzig, Munich, and Wolfsburg.

Initially, Portugal and Italy also presented bids to host the championship but later withdrew. Both nations opted to concentrate their efforts on co-hosting bids for the men’s Euro 2032 and the 2030 men’s World Cup, respectively.

The final decision saw Germany emerge as a clear favorite, securing 15 votes from the committee members. The joint bid from Denmark and Sweden received two votes, while Poland did not receive any. This will mark the third occasion that Germany, an eight-time winner of the tournament, has hosted the event. They previously staged the championship in 2001 and, as West Germany, in 1989, winning on both instances.

Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German football association (DFB), expressed gratitude, stating, “It was a long journey. We have so many people working at DFB to get this tournament.” He added, “Thanks to all who supported us, we felt this support throughout the campaign.”

Looking ahead, England, who retained their title by defeating Spain on penalties in the Euro 2025 final hosted in Switzerland, will be aiming for a historic hat-trick of Euros titles in 2029. Germany remains the only team to have achieved more than two consecutive victories in the tournament, securing six in a row between 1995 and 2013.
