556– Rohit’s 84-ball 131 included 16 hits to the fence and five over it, helping him surpass Chris Gayle’s tally of 553 sixes in international cricket. The second-best, among current cricketers is England white-ball captain Jos Buttler, who currently has 315 sixes across formats.

Least innings to 1,000 runs in World Cups
19– innings taken by Rohit Sharma to 1,000 runs in the World Cup, made him the joint-fastest to the mark alongside David Warner, who had reached the milestone in Chennai on Sunday. Of the 23 batters to have aggregated a minimum of 1000 runs in the World Cup till date, Rohit has the best average (65.23), his strike rate of exactly 100 being only bettered by AB de Villiers (117.29).

A record-breaking ton
Rohit recorded his 31st hundred in ODIs, and a staggering seventh in World Cups, taking him past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of six to claim the record for the marquee event. Interestingly, Rohit’s seven World Cup hundreds came against six different opponents. Sachin Tendulkar (6) and Kumar Sangakkara (5) scored theirs against five different teams in the competition.

It was Rohit’s 29th hundred as an opener, which is only bettered by Tendulkar, who scored 45 at the batting position.
He now has three World Cup hundreds in a successful chase, another record, surpassing Gordon Greenidge, Ramiz Raja and Stephen Fleming, who had two each.
63 – balls taken by Rohit to complete his hundred made him the fastest Indian to the milestone in World Cups, breaking the record previously held by Kapil Dev, who had got the mark off 72 balls during his epic 175* against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in 1983. It is also the second fastest hundred in a World Cup chase.
It was also the fifth fastest hundred for India in the format, and coincidentally, all of them have come in a successful run-chase.

The partnership came at a run-rate of 8.35, the highest for an opening stand worth minimum 150 in World Cup history. Overall, it stands fifth in all ODIs, and the second quickest for India, after the unbeaten 201-run stand between Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir against New Zealand at Hamilton in 2009, which had come at 8.55 runs per over.

A dominant win
India gunned down the 273 run target in just 35 overs, making it the fastest 250-plus chase in World Cups in terms of the run-rate. Three of the top-five have now come within the first week of the ongoing edition.
Overall, it was their seventh successful chase of 250 or more in the competition, no other team has more than five.
