Brian Walshe was convicted on Monday of first-degree murder in the brutal killing of his wife, Ana Walshe, nearly three years after her disappearance. Ana, originally from Serbia, was last seen on January 1, 2023, following a New Year’s Eve celebration at their home in Cohasset, Massachusetts.
The verdict was met with silence in the courtroom, and Walshe showed no visible reaction. He now faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole and is slated for sentencing on Wednesday. Before leaving the court, he was restrained with handcuffs and shackles. Last month, Walshe pled guilty to lesser offenses of misleading law enforcement and unlawfully disposing of his wife’s body.

Prosecutors built their case largely on digital evidence, revealing disturbing internet searches linked to Walshe’s devices. These included queries about dismemberment, methods for disposing bodies, and how to eradicate DNA evidence. Investigators also uncovered surveillance footage showing a man resembling Walshe discarding heavy trash bags near their residence.
Further examination at a local trash facility uncovered multiple items including a hatchet, hacksaw, cleaning supplies, and personal belongings associated with Ana, such as a Prada purse and a COVID-19 vaccine card. DNA testing confirmed both Ana and Brian Walshe’s DNA on several items, deepening the forensic case.
The prosecution also highlighted that Brian Walshe was the sole beneficiary of a $1 million life insurance policy taken out by his wife.
In defense, Walshe’s attorney initially suggested Ana died suddenly from unexplained causes, portraying the couple as loving parents who were looking forward to their future. Although there was speculation about witnesses and possibly Walshe himself testifying, the defense ultimately rested without presenting any testimony.
Walshe initially told investigators Ana had been called away to Washington, D.C. for a work emergency on New Year’s Day, but evidence showed she neither took transport to the airport nor boarded a flight. Walshe did not contact her employer until several days later.
He later confessed to dismembering and disposing of his wife’s body after panicking upon discovering her death in their home.
