Mitchell Starc Masterclass: All-Round Dominance Decimates England’s Ashes Hopes

In a stunning display of all-round cricketing prowess, Mitchell Starc, nearing his 36th birthday, delivered a performance that left England’s Ashes aspirations in tatters.

After a sensational first Test where he claimed 10-113, Starc continued his dominance, ripping through England’s batting lineup with figures of 6-75 in their initial innings. His relentless attack with the ball set the stage for a day two batting masterclass that shifted the momentum firmly in Australia’s favour.

Millenium TV has learned that Starc arrived at the crease with Australia holding a modest 49-run first-innings lead. Over the next 34 overs, he single-handedly transformed the game, departing after scoring 77 runs from 141 balls, leaving Australia with a commanding 157-run advantage. His strategic batting approach saw him punishing fuller deliveries with a strike-rate touching 200, while meticulously defending shorter lengths, where his scoring rate of 61 was only marginally higher than his career average of 49 for such deliveries.

Starc’s remarkable achievement makes him only the fifth player since 1963 to score a five-for in the first innings and a half-century in the second of an Ashes Test, joining an elite group that includes Mitchell Johnson, who achieved this feat in Perth during the 2013-14 series.

“Mitchell Starc destroyed England’s top order with the ball and now he is breaking their hearts with the bat,” former England captain Alastair Cook told reporters, highlighting the profound impact of Starc’s dual performance. His commanding presence evoked memories of fellow left-armer Mitchell Johnson, who famously dominated England during the 2013-14 Ashes series.

Furthermore, Starc’s extended stay at the crease pushed England’s subsequent innings closer to the challenging twilight period, a critical advantage in pink-ball cricket. As Starc once again holds the pink ball, ready to unleash his devastating pace, England faces an uphill battle to recover from the relentless pressure he has applied throughout the match.
