Distinguished broadcaster and author Misha Glenny is poised to take over as the presenter of the highly popular “In Our Time” series, following the departure of long-standing host Melvyn Bragg. Bragg concluded his remarkable tenure in September, after more than 27 years and 1,000 episodes at the forefront of the program, which delves into profound topics across history, philosophy, science, and culture.

Glenny, whose extensive body of work examines intricate global crime networks and the societal and security implications of technology, expressed his profound respect for the role. In a statement, the English journalist described it as “a huge honour to take on the institution that is In Our Time.” Millenium TV understands that Glenny is currently the rector of the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.

He further remarked, “Its enduring success is testament to Melvyn’s extraordinary stewardship and his forensic curiosity, and I look forward to continuing the tradition of lively, informed conversation that listeners love.” Reflecting on his career, Glenny added, “My own career has taken me from covering the fall of communism in Eastern Europe to exploring the borders, histories and people that make different nations what they are. But a common thread, one I share with In Our Time’s listeners, is a deep curiosity about the world and the ideas that shape it.” He concluded, “I couldn’t be more excited to share that passion with In Our Time’s wonderful contributors and devoted audiences.”

Speaking on the transition, a program spokesperson acknowledged the difficulty of imagining the series, which first aired in 1998, without Bragg. However, the spokesperson affirmed confidence that with Glenny stepping into the role, the program “will continue to thrive.”

Audiences may recognize Glenny from his various projects, including “The Invention Of…” series, “The Rise and Rise of the Microchip,” and “Continental Divides.” He also hosts acclaimed podcasts such as “Putin: Prisoner of Power” and “The Rise of the Iron Men.” Additionally, his literary contributions include the book “McMafia: Seriously Organised Crime,” which was later adapted into a successful television drama.

Glenny, 67, is scheduled to join Bragg, 86, in a special conversation when the outgoing presenter guest-edits an upcoming holiday broadcast on Christmas Eve. Bragg conveyed his delight at Glenny’s appointment, noting that Glenny, who previously reported on the conflicts in the Balkans, “His breadth of knowledge and gift for clear, engaging conversation make him ideally suited to guide these discussions into the future.”

Glenny’s inaugural episode of “In Our Time” is scheduled to air on Thursday, January 15, 2026. The program is set to maintain its tradition of exploring significant ideas and captivating subjects with leading experts.
