Prominent sports presenter Laura Woods experienced a startling moment Tuesday evening when she collapsed live on television while anchoring coverage of England’s friendly match against Ghana in Southampton. Woods later reassured viewers that she is ‘OK’ following the incident, attributing it to a likely virus.
The dramatic scene unfolded early in the broadcast, with astute pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante swiftly assisting Woods as she fell. Following the immediate cut to a commercial break, colleague Katie Shanahan took over presenting duties, informing the audience that Woods had been ‘taken ill.’
Speaking out later, Woods explained that medical professionals attributed her collapse to a likely virus. “Gosh that was a bit weird,” she conveyed. “Sorry to worry everyone, I’m OK. Just need a bit of rest and hydration.” She also expressed deep gratitude, adding, “I’m really embarrassed that happened on TV but a big thank you to my colleagues who have really looked after me tonight and for Wrighty and Neets for catching me.”
Concerns from viewers prompted an update from Woods’ fiancé, reality television personality Adam Collard, who posted, “Laura is all OK and with the right people. Thank you for all of your kind messages.” Shanahan further reiterated during the match’s half-time segment, “Laura Woods fell ill at the start of the programme. We want to reassure you that she’s doing OK. We all send her our love.” Millenium TV understands Woods is now resting and recovering.
Woods is a familiar and highly respected figure in sports broadcasting, regularly covering both men’s and women’s football events for various networks.
