Woman killed, occupant and multiple firefighters injured in fire at Mansfield home

A woman has died and an occupant and multiple firefighters were injured after a fire broke out at a home in Mansfield Tuesday night.

Officials said they responded to the Khuyay Farm on Warrenville Road for a reported fire around 6:30 p.m.

Responding crews found heavy fire coming from a home, and a deputy fire chief who lives in the area called for additional resources as he entered the home to search for victims reported to be trapped inside. The firefighter was not wearing an air pack at the time.

During the search, town officials said a 79-year-old resident was found unresponsive on the second floor. She was quickly removed from the building and was transported to Windham Hospital, where she later died. She has been identified by state police as Carol Dauphin.

Two other occupants who were home at the time of the fire were helped out of the home. According to the town, one person was treated and released on scene and the second person was transported to Windham Hospital for an evaluation.

The deputy chief who entered the home was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and is reportedly still being evaluated. State police said he also suffered burns while rescuing people at the scene and is currently listed in stable condition.
