There are more than 100,000 veterans living here in Connecticut, and they were met with assistance and support at the annual Stand Down event on Friday.
It’s a one-stop shop for veterans and active duty to get any help they may need.
“It shows people still care for us,” veteran John Winiarski said.
Veterans tell us connecting with fellow service members and seeing support up close and personal can make a big impact.
“You feel camaraderie and it’s a nice peaceful feeling,” Winiarski said. “It’s like a veterans carnival, services, dental, meet people.”
“I think it’s needed. I think it’s very helpful to a lot of the vets that are homeless, especially with the wintertime coming up,” veteran Joel Tucker said.
The 2025 Stand Down event was packed to the brim in six locations across the state with healthcare, employment, clothing, legal, mental health and vehicle assistance.
