Clayton, Neser add to Victoria’s woes

Queensland vs Victoria, Mackay

Led by Mitchell Swepson’s triple strike, Victoria were reduced to 104 for 7 after Queensland had taken a 248-run lead at the end of third day’s play. Peter Handscomb, batting on 31, has waged a lone battle in the second essay for the visitors.

Earlier in the day, Jake Clayton and Michael Neser extended their seventh wicket stand to 155, with the former bringing up his maiden First-Class century. Neser was dismissed 10 runs short of a ton. Cameron McClure, who bagged the last two wickets returned with three scalps.

Brief Scores: Victoria 253 * 104/7 (Peter Handscomb 31; Mitchell Swepson 3-14) trail Queensland501/9 decl. (Matt Renshaw 135, Jake Clayton 109, Michael Neser 90; Cameron McClure 3-86) by 144 runs

South Australia vs New South Wales, Adelaide

Jake Nisbet’s double strike pegged South Australia back early on Day 3 after New South Wales were bundled out for 183 courtesy Nathan McAndrew’s fifer, his fifth in first-class cricket.

South Australia took a 110-run first innings lead as NSW put up an uninspired batting display despite having seen through the first hour play without losing a wicket. Matthew Gilkes stroked a half-century but was the only batter to make any noteworthy contribution as McAndrew ripped through the top and the middle order. Wes Agar and Harry Conway also contributed with a brace each.

Brief Scores: South Australia 293 & 57/3 (Kelvin Smith 33; Jack Nisbet 2-14) lead New South Wales 183 (Matthew Gilkes 57, Ryan Hackney 37; Nathan McAndrew 5-42, Harry Conway 2-43) by 167 runs
