Lebanon’s Aoun Warns Israeli Attack on Bridge as Prelude to Ground Invasion

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has issued a stern warning regarding recent Israeli attacks, describing an Israeli airstrike on a bridge in Lebanon as a prelude to a possible ground invasion. This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Hezbollah, the Shiite militant group based in Lebanon.

The airstrike targeted a key infrastructure point—a bridge—raising serious concerns about the intentions behind the operation. President Aoun emphasized that such attacks not only threaten Lebanon’s sovereignty but also risk further destabilizing the already volatile region.

In response to the situation, the Israeli army chief has publicly stated that the military operation against Hezbollah “has only begun” and warned that it would be “prolonged.” This declaration signals Israel’s commitment to intensifying its campaign, potentially involving extended military action across Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah, considered a terrorist organization by Israel and several other countries, has been involved in numerous past conflicts with Israel. The group has a well-entrenched military presence in southern Lebanon and is known for launching rockets into Israeli territory.

The recent escalation can be traced back to heightened tensions following cross-border exchanges of fire and retaliatory strikes. Israeli officials claim these operations aim to dismantle Hezbollah’s military capabilities and infrastructure.

International observers and regional powers have expressed deep concern over the prospect of a full-scale ground invasion. Such an operation could lead to significant civilian casualties and widespread damage across Lebanon.

Lebanese officials urge restraint and call for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions. President Aoun has also appealed to the international community to intervene and prevent the conflict from spiraling out of control.

The situation remains fluid, with both sides preparing for further confrontations. The potential for a prolonged conflict raises fears of a broader regional war involving multiple actors.

Analysts warn that the continuation of hostilities could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, already strained by economic turmoil and political instability.

As Israel intensifies operations, Lebanon braces for the possibility of an expanded conflict that could reshape the political and security landscape in the Middle East. International diplomatic efforts are critical in the coming days to prevent an escalation into a wider war.
