WFP Warns US-Israeli War on Iran Could Push 45 Million into Acute Hunger

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a dire warning regarding the escalating conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. According to the WFP, the ongoing war risks pushing as many as 45 million people into acute hunger. This alarming forecast highlights the devastating humanitarian consequences of the conflict extending beyond the immediate military and political ramifications.

The WFP’s warning comes at a time when global food security is already precarious due to factors such as climate change, economic instability, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The potential surge in hunger is expected to disproportionately affect vulnerable populations in the region and around the world, compounding existing crises.

The conflict’s disruption of supply chains, trade routes, and agricultural production could lead to significant shortages of essential food items, exacerbating the difficulty in accessing nutritious food. Inflationary pressures on food prices are also likely to intensify, making it even more challenging for low-income households to afford basic sustenance.

Humanitarian experts emphasize that the war’s collateral damage to food security could trigger widespread malnutrition, increase mortality rates, and undermine the development progress achieved over recent years. Children, the elderly, and displaced communities are particularly at risk of suffering severe consequences.

The WFP calls on the international community to urgently prioritize diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further deterioration of the situation. In addition, increased funding and support for humanitarian aid programs are crucial to address the rising needs of vulnerable populations impacted by the conflict.

This warning serves as a stark reminder of how geopolitical conflicts can rapidly translate into humanitarian disasters, affecting millions beyond the immediate zones of combat. The global community’s response will be essential in averting a large-scale hunger crisis linked to the war on Iran.

As the situation develops, continuous monitoring and coordinated action will be necessary to mitigate the risks and provide relief to those most affected. The WFP stresses the importance of solidarity and proactive measures to prevent this looming catastrophe, underscoring the severe implications if the conflict persists or escalates further.
