AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a standing order Friday that will “serve as a prescription for all Maine people” in an effort to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines in the state.
The standing order comes under the direction of Gov. Janet Mills.
It authorizes qualified health professionals, including pharmacists, to administer the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine, according to a joint statement announcing the order.
“Under the standing order, Maine people no longer need to obtain a prescription through their health care provider to receive the vaccine,” the release states.
Mills earlier this week said that she would be looking to find ways to improve access to the vaccines in Maine following actions by Trump administration that led to multiple restrictions for who would be eligible to receive them.
