A driver who was involved in crashes in Southington and Cheshire late Saturday night is in critical condition, police say. Cheshire dispatchers said they received a 911 call around 11:30 p.m. from a driver who had just been hit by a white 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of Knotter Drive and Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in Southington.
The caller said after the collision, the Tahoe sped off into Cheshire, went east on West Johnson Avenue and towards Route 10. Shortly after, the caller said they came upon a crash involving the Tahoe on West Johnson Avenue with the driver of the Tahoe on the ground, unconscious, according to police.
The driver of the Tahoe was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Their condition is described as critical at this time.
Investigators said the Tahoe was traveling eastbound on West Johnson Avenue when it crossed over the double yellow center lines and into the westbound lane, hit several trees and caused the driver to be ejected.
The Southington Police Department is investigating the initial crash at the intersection of Knotter Drive and Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and the Cheshire Police Department is investigating the second crash. Both crashes remain under investigation.
