Centurions put Tasmania in command

Led by centuries from Jake Doran, Beau Webster and Bradley Hope, Tasmania put themselves in a commanding position in their contest against New South Wales. After posting 493 in their first innings, New South Wales were reduced to 46 for 3 in their second essay at the end of the second day’s play.

Resuming the day on 179 for 4, trailing the visitors by two runs, Webster and Doran extended their fifth wicket stand to 202 runs enroute their respective centuries. Even as the duo departed in quick succession, leaving the team reduced to 283 for 6, Hope’s counter-attacking knock, aided by useful contributions from all the lower order batters, Tasmania stretched their control in the contest. Hope smashed an unbeaten 132, which included 21 boundaries, adding 45, 41, 99 and 25 runs respectively for the last four wickets.

Tasmania then struck thrice in the last 12 overs of the day to ensure further control.

Brief Scores: New South Wales 181 & 46/3 (Daniel Hugehes 21) trail Tasmania Bradley Hope 132*, Jake Doran 118, Beau Webster 103; Jackson Bird 3-102) by 266 runs

Victoria vs Queensland, Melbourne

Will Sutherland and Scott Boland bagged four wickets each as Queensland were bundled out for 158 to hand Victoria a 113-run win, their second victory of the season. Even as Bryce Street held one end up for a long while in their team’s attempt to draw the contest, Boland’s early burst left them on the backfoot. There wasn’t a lot of support for the opener as only four other batters managed to register double digit scores.

Earlier in the day, resuming the final day on 156 for 6, Victoria declared their innings 190 for 9. Liam Guthrie bagged two wickets to return a six-fer in the innings.

Brief Scores: Victoria 300/7 decl & 190/9 decl. (Will Sutherland 66; Liam Guthrie 6-60) beat Queensland 219 & 158 (Bryce Street 43; Will Sutherland 4-32, Scott Boland 4-49) by 113 runs
