Sussex have received a 12-point penalty in the ongoing County Championship and its captain Cheteshwar Pujara has got a one-match suspension as a result.
This comes inaccordance with the regulations set up by ECB for Professional conduct. The penalties come as a result of Sussex getting four fixed penalties in one season.
“By virtue of receiving two additional fixed penalties in the LV= Insurance County Championship match against Leicestershire on 13 September 2023, Sussex CCC has now met the threshold of four fixed penalties in one season, having previously received two fixed penalties in the LV County Championship earlier in the season,” said a statement from ECB.
Pujara, the captain for the games specified above gets a suspension according to the regulations and Sussex have accepted it without challenging. The on-field incidents pertaining to the suspension involved the likes of Tom Haines, Jack Carson and Ari Karvelas who have all been not picked for their next game against Derbyshire.
In their statement, Sussex said: “Tom Haines and Jack Carson have been made unavailable for selection by Head Coach Paul Farbrace due to their conduct in the previous game.
Ari Karvelas is also unavailable until an investigation into an incident in the Leicestershire game has been concluded.”
Sussex have dropped from third to fifth because of the five-point penalty and currently tally 124 points.
