Houthis Renew Missile and Drone Attacks on Yemen’s Port of al-Makha

The ongoing conflict in Yemen has taken another intense turn as the Houthi forces have renewed their missile and drone attacks on the strategic port city of al-Makha, also known as Mocha. This resurgence of aggression came less than 24 hours after an initial wave of attacks struck the same area, targeting both the city and its vital commercial port.

Al-Makha, located along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, is a key commercial hub and logistical point, crucial for the movement of goods and humanitarian aid in the war-torn region. The repeated attacks have raised serious concerns about the stability and security of vital maritime routes and the safety of civilians and workers in the port area.

The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, have deployed a mix of missiles and drones in their offensive. This combination allows them to strike with both precision and psychological impact, increasing the threat to both military targets and civilian infrastructure.

According to local reports, the latest barrage came swiftly after an earlier attack, signaling an escalation in the frequency and intensity of assaults aimed at pressuring opposing factions and disrupting supply lines.

The Yemeni government and allied coalition forces have condemned the attacks vehemently, citing them as violations of international law and obstacles to peace efforts. They emphasize that such escalations worsen the humanitarian crisis already affecting millions across Yemen.

International observers and humanitarian organizations have also expressed alarm. The repeated strikes on al-Makha’s port not only jeopardize commercial activities but also hinder the delivery of essential aid to populations in dire need.

Experts suggest that the Houthis’ choice to target al-Makha is strategic, aiming to control access to one of Yemen’s few operational ports while undermining the government’s grip on critical infrastructure.

The attacks have resulted in significant damage to port facilities and have caused interruptions in shipping activities, leading to delays in imports and exports critical for the local economy and broader region.

There are growing calls from the international community for de-escalation and renewed dialogue to prevent further deterioration of the conflict and to protect Yemen’s vital economic lifelines.

As the conflict continues, the residents of al-Makha and Yemen as a whole bear the brunt of the violence, facing heightened insecurity and disruption to their daily lives. The ongoing attacks underscore the urgent need for lasting solutions to restore peace and stability in Yemen.
