Nampa police shoot, injure man allegedly armed with knife

NAMPA, Idaho — A Nampa man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after police shot him during a confrontation Friday night.

Nampa police said officers responded to a report of “suspicious activity” near 6th Street North and 5th Avenue North in Nampa at 11:25 p.m. on Sept. 5. When they arrived, officers said they found a man carrying a knife.

The man reportedly refused to follow police commands, according to the police department, leading one officer to fire shots that wounded him. Paramedics took him to a local hospital, where he is being treated with life-threatening injuries.

The Canyon County Critical Incident Task Force has taken over the case, with the Caldwell Police Department heading the investigation. Officials said the investigation is in its early stages and they are still collecting information.
