Nasir Hossain amongst eight charged for corruption in Abu Dhabi T10 League

Eight persons, including former Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain, have been charged for breaching different aspects of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) anti-corruption code during the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The action of charging those involved has been carried by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on behalf of the ECB.

Hossain, who represented Bangladesh in 19 Tests, 65 ODIs and 31 T20Is, has been charged with Article 2.4.3, Article 2.4.4 and Article 2.4.6, which amount to his failure to disclose details regarding a mysterious gift, non-cooperation in DACO investigations and his inability to disclose the complete details of the corrupt approaches made to him. While Hossain hasn’t played international cricket since 2017, he has been active in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) where he also happens to captain the Dhaka franchise.

Two co-owners of teams, Krishan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi, have been charged with Article 2.4.5, Article 2.4.6 and Article 2.4.7, largely relating to their lack of cooperation with investigations carried out by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) helmed by the ICC. They were also charged with placing bets on different aspects of games that were played out in the season.

Shadab Ahamed, a team manager, along with Sunny Dhillon (assistant coach), Ashar Zaidi (batting coach) and two domestic players (Saliya Saman, Rizwan Javed) are the others who have been charged with violating the code.

Reacting to the development, T Ten Sports Management expressed its disappointment and reiterated its stance of rooting out corruption by working closely with the ICC.

“We take all allegations of this nature seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of corruption. We will continue to work closely with the ICC on our calendar of T10 tournaments and do everything within our control to ensure the integrity of cricket is upheld.”
