Drone Strike on Sudan Hospital in White Nile State Kills 10: MSF Reports

A devastating drone strike targeted Al Jabalain Hospital in White Nile State, Sudan, resulting in the deaths of 10 people, according to Médicins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders. The tragic incident involved two strikes hitting critical areas of the hospital — an operating theatre and a maternity ward.

MSF, an international medical humanitarian organization operating in conflict zones, confirmed their medical facility was attacked during the turmoil affecting Sudan, highlighting the severe risks faced by healthcare providers and patients in the region.

The hospital provides essential medical services, including surgeries and childbirth care, to a population already severely affected by the ongoing conflict. The strike has not only caused loss of life but also disrupted vital medical services, exacerbating the crisis for vulnerable populations in White Nile State.

Witnesses reported chaos and destruction inside the medical center immediately following the strikes, with many injured and medical staff forced to evacuate or work under extreme conditions. MSF condemned the attack stating that hospitals and medical staff must be protected under international humanitarian law, emphasizing that targeting civilian medical infrastructure is a grave violation.

The Sudanese conflict has seen escalating violence across various regions including White Nile, impacting civilians and healthcare systems alike. This incident highlights the increasing dangers faced by hospitals, which should remain safe zones even amid hostilities. The loss of 10 lives is a stark reminder of the human cost of this conflict, particularly for non-combatants.

International humanitarian organizations have called for immediate investigations into the strike to hold responsible parties accountable and ensure protection measures for hospitals across Sudan. They have urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect humanitarian law principles and guarantee safe access to healthcare for all civilians.

The United Nations and several governments have condemned attacks on medical facilities in conflict zones around the world, recognizing the critical importance of safeguarding medical neutrality. The attack on Al Jabalain Hospital underscores the urgent need for stronger international action to prevent such tragedies and preserve healthcare services in war-torn areas.

As the people of Sudan grapple with ongoing violence and humanitarian challenges, the assault on this hospital deepens the crisis and calls for renewed global focus on protecting civilians and health infrastructure. MSF continues to provide emergency medical assistance in the region while advocating for peace and security to restore vital healthcare services to affected communities.
