The state Department of Transportation initially reported the highway was closed around 3:30 p.m. because of a crash involving a pedestrian. But the Troop C barracks of the Connecticut State Police later said the pedestrian turned out to be a motorcyclist who had been involved in a collision.

Lifestar was called to the scene, and both the east and west lanes of the highway were temporarily closed so the helicopter could land, they said.
The crash was reported in the area of exits 64 and 66.
