Central Ohio snowfall leads to slight economic boost for some businesses

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The first significant snowfall hit our area Thursday night, causing headaches for many. Some local businesses see the snow as their opportunity to make money.

Peabody Landscaping thinks of snowfall very differently. For them, snowfall equals big business.

The company was working overtime Friday, five plow trucks clearing a path for vehicles at Tuttle Mall.

“We’re here for you. We’re here to move the snow for you so you don’t get stuck,” said Production Manager of Peabody Landscaping Mike Prestidge.

We’ve checked with multiple businesses across the area. It’s also been a busy time for Jordan Davis at Capitol Towing & Recovery. He says within the last 24 hours, they’ve responded to 150-175 calls for service.

So far, this winter season hasn’t seen a lot of snow. The lack of snow has impacted Peabody Landscaping’s business.

“We had to lay a few people off this year. The past year, it wasn’t so bad, but this year, we had to,” said Prestidge.

The winter season is not over yet. Businesses relying on the winter for an economic boost hope less snowfall doesn’t put a freeze on their business.
