Harmanpreet’s all-round show helps Renegades bludgeon Strikers

Melbourne Renegades beat the Adelaide Strikers by 81 runs at the Junction Oval, after a stunning all-round effort from Harmanpreet Kaur stole the show.

After being asked to bat first, the Renegades lost the dangerous Hayley Matthews early, offering Georgia Adams a return catch, before Tammy Beaumont and Josephine Dooley put on 51 for the second wicket. Anesu Moshangwe broke the stand, getting rid of Beaumont who handed a catch to Adams, before Dooley was scalped by Gibson.

The two departed in consecutive overs, before Courtney Webb and Harmanpreet Kaur put them on fifth gear, with a fluent partnership of 93 runs in 64 balls to lift the Renegades to 167-3.

The chase started shakily for the Strikers with Ella Hayward picking up the openers early. The scoreboard pressure was telling, but Tahlia McGrath soldiered on, and was eventually picked up by Hayley Matthews, triggering a shocking collapse.

The bowlers shared the spoils of the massacre, as the Strikers collapsed from 65-3 to 86 all-out, losing seven wickets to 21 runs, as Harmanpreet picked up the last two wickets – Georgia Adams and Megan Schutt – to wrap up a clinical victory for the Renegades, and a Player of the match award.

Brief Scores: Melbourne Renegades 167-3 in 20 overs (Courtney Webb 49*, Harmanpreet Kaur 43*, Georgia Adams 1-7) beat Adelaide Strikers 86 all-out in 14.5 overs (Tahlia McGrath 31, Harmanpreet Kaur 2-11) by 81 runs
