Russian Air Attacks Kill Five at Ukraine’s Naftogaz Gas Facilities

In a devastating attack, Russian air strikes have killed five people at Naftogaz gas facilities in Ukraine. According to Serhiy Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz, the victims include three workers and two emergency service rescuers who were responding to the situation. The assault has also resulted in injuries to 37 others.

The Naftogaz gas facilities, integral to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, were targeted amid escalating conflicts in the region. The attack not only caused immediate casualties but also raised concerns over the safety and security of critical energy assets that supply gas to millions of Ukrainians and contribute to the country’s economy.

Serhiy Koretskyi highlighted the bravery of the emergency service rescuers, who lost their lives while assisting the affected workers. The incident underscores the dangers faced by first responders in conflict zones, who come to the aid of others despite the risks.

The attack has drawn international condemnation from various governments and organizations, urging for protection of civilian infrastructure and insisting on adherence to international humanitarian law.

Naftogaz is assessing the damage to the facilities and is working on plans to restore operations while ensuring the safety of its employees and emergency teams. The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining energy supplies amidst the ongoing challenges.

This tragedy comes as part of a broader pattern of attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure during the conflict, impacting essential services and civilian lives. The loss of life at Naftogaz facilities is a stark reminder of the human cost of the conflict and the importance of safeguarding energy infrastructure from future harm.
