RSF Attack on Sudan’s South Kordofan Results in at Least 14 Deaths, Including Children

A recent violent attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies in Sudan’s South Kordofan region has tragically claimed the lives of at least 14 individuals, including children. The Sudan Doctors Network reported that the RSF and allied forces launched a prolonged shelling campaign against residential areas in the city of Dilling, resulting in significant casualties and destruction.

The shelling lasted several hours, targeting civilian neighborhoods and causing widespread fear and chaos among the population. Medical teams arriving on the scene faced a daunting challenge as they worked tirelessly to treat the wounded amidst ongoing hostilities and dangerously damaged infrastructure.

South Kordofan, a region that has experienced recurrent conflict over the years, has once again become a flashpoint for violence. The attack by the RSF, a paramilitary group involved in various conflicts across Sudan, underscores the continuing instability in the country.

Humanitarian organizations have expressed deep concern over the escalation and appealed for immediate ceasefire and access to provide aid and medical assistance to civilians caught in the conflict. The killing of children and targeting of residential zones highlight the severe humanitarian toll and the urgent need for protective measures for vulnerable populations.

This latest episode adds to the growing list of violent incidents exacerbating the fragile security situation in Sudan. Efforts to negotiate peace and establish lasting stability remain critical, yet the repeated breaches of ceasefire agreements complicate the path forward.

Authorities and community leaders have condemned the attacks, calling for accountability and stronger protections for civilians. International bodies are being urged to increase diplomatic pressure and support to foster dialogue among conflicting parties.

The tragedy in Dilling serves as a grim reminder of the human cost of armed conflict and the pressing imperative to prioritize peace, safety, and humanitarian relief in Sudan. The immediate international response and long-term strategies to address root causes of conflict will be pivotal in preventing further loss of innocent lives in South Kordofan and beyond.
