Families Search for Loved Ones After Deadly Pakistan Strikes on Kabul Rehab Center

A devastating attack by Pakistani forces on a rehabilitation center in Kabul has triggered a frantic search for survivors and mourning among families whose loved ones have reportedly been killed. Afghan authorities claim that the recent strikes have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians at the facility, located in the heart of Kabul. The alleged assault has sparked outrage within Afghanistan, exacerbating existing tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.

According to Afghan officials, the Pakistani military carried out precision airstrikes on the rehab center, which primarily serves drug addicts and vulnerable individuals who rely on its support for recovery and rehabilitation. The attack reportedly took place late at night when many residents were inside, leading to tragic consequences.

Emergency response teams were dispatched immediately to the scene following the strikes, but rescuers faced difficulties due to the extent of the damage and the ongoing instability in the surrounding area. Families of the center’s residents have traveled from across Kabul and nearby regions in hopes of finding their relatives alive or gathering information about their whereabouts.

Doctors Without Borders and other humanitarian organizations have condemned the attack, calling it a violation of international law and a humanitarian crisis. They emphasized that rehab centers are civilian facilities that must be protected during any conflict or military operations.

In contrast, officials from Islamabad have categorically denied the allegations, calling them ‘false and baseless.’ The Pakistani government and military sources argue that no target matching the description of a rehabilitation center was struck during their operations. They insist that Pakistani forces only conducted legitimate counter-terrorism actions against militant groups threatening regional security.

The incident has escalated diplomatic tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, already strained due to border disputes and concerns over insurgent movements across the frontier. Afghan President and government representatives have demanded accountability and called for an investigation by international bodies to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.

International reactions have also poured in, with various countries and United Nations officials expressing concern over the loss of civilian lives and urging restraint to prevent further escalation. Aid agencies warn that continued insecurity could severely undermine humanitarian efforts and the fragile recovery process in Afghanistan.

As of now, the situation remains fluid, with ongoing efforts to identify victims and provide condolences and aid to affected families. The tragedy underscores the enduring challenges facing Kabul and the broader region where military conflicts continue to impact innocent lives.

Families continue to hold out hope for news of their loved ones, while calls for peace and protection of civilian institutions grow louder amid this harrowing chapter in Afghanistan’s recent history.
