Students Among 17 Dead in RSF Drone Attack in Sudan’s White Nile State

A devastating drone attack carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has resulted in the deaths of 17 individuals, including students, in Sudan’s White Nile State. This tragic incident highlights the escalating violence and ongoing conflict in the region, with the RSF continuing to be implicated in severe human rights violations.

The Sudanese Doctors Network has condemned the attack, describing it as a “horrific crime” that exemplifies the persistent violence and violations perpetrated by the RSF. The organization emphasized the urgent need for accountability and protection for civilians caught in the crossfire of Sudan’s turbulent political and military struggles.

Eyewitnesses and medical personnel at the scene reported that many of the victims were innocent students, including children, who were caught off guard by the sudden drone strike. The attack not only caused loss of life but also inflicted severe injuries on many others, overwhelming local medical facilities already strained by ongoing conflict and shortages.

The White Nile State has been a focal point of conflict in Sudan, with frequent clashes between the RSF and other armed groups. The use of drone technology for attacks marks a dangerous escalation in the tactics employed in the conflict, raising concerns among international observers about the increasing militarization and its impact on civilian populations.

Human rights organizations have called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the attack, urging the Sudanese authorities and international community to hold those responsible accountable. They stress the importance of safeguarding civilians and ensuring that such heinous acts do not go unpunished.

This latest attack adds to the growing toll of Sudan’s ongoing conflict, which has displaced countless families and destabilized the region. The international community continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution and increased humanitarian aid to support the victims and rebuild affected communities.

Sudan’s complex political landscape, marked by power struggles and rival factions, has created an environment where violence has become alarmingly frequent. The involvement of paramilitary forces like the RSF has further complicated efforts to achieve lasting peace.

The Sudanese Doctors Network’s statement serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of this conflict. It calls on all parties to cease violence and engage in constructive dialogue aimed at protecting civilians and restoring stability to the region.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on providing urgent medical care to survivors and supporting families of the deceased, while the broader goal remains the pursuit of justice and peace in Sudan’s White Nile State and beyond.
