Ramadan 2026: Fasting Hours, Suhoor, and Iftar Times Around the Globe

Ramadan 2026 is approaching, and Muslims around the world are preparing for the holy month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. The month of Ramadan is observed by fasting from dawn (suhoor) to dusk (iftar), and the fasting hours vary greatly depending on geographical location. This year, the fasting duration ranges from approximately 11.5 to 15.5 hours across different regions.

The variation in fasting times is influenced by each location’s distance from the equator, with longer fasting hours in higher latitude areas during this time of year. For example, in some northern countries, fasting may last up to 15 and a half hours, while closer to the equator, fasting lasts approximately 11 and a half hours.

The start of fasting each day begins at suhoor, the pre-dawn meal, which Muslims consume before the fajr prayer. Suhoor timing is crucial as it marks the final meal before the fast begins at dawn. The fast then continues until sunset, when Muslims break their fast at iftar, the evening meal.

In major cities across the globe:
– In Mecca, Saudi Arabia, fasting lasts around 14 hours.
– In New York City, USA, the fast will last approximately 14 hours and 15 minutes.
– In London, United Kingdom, fasting hours are about 15 hours.
– In Jakarta, Indonesia, fasting is closer to 13 hours.
– In Sydney, Australia, fasting is approximately 11 and a half hours.

Islamic scholars emphasize the spiritual benefits of fasting beyond just abstaining from food and drink, highlighting increased self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and deeper connection to God.

Additionally, Muslims pay attention to accurate timings for suhoor and iftar, which are usually published by local mosques and Islamic centers to ensure everyone breaks their fast at the correct time.

With Ramadan 2026, it is essential for Muslims to plan their fasting according to their local timings, taking into consideration factors such as health, work schedules, and daylight hours.

Overall, Ramadan remains a time of communal prayer, charity, and spiritual growth worldwide, and understanding the fasting times helps followers participate fully and meaningfully in this sacred month.
