Syria live: Fighting Resumes in Aleppo After Ceasefire Collapses

The volatile situation in Aleppo has escalated once again as fighting has resumed after a ceasefire collapsed. The Syrian army and SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) fighters remain at odds, with the ceasefire falling apart following the refusal of SDF fighters to withdraw from contested areas. This resurgence of conflict marks a significant setback for peace efforts in the region.

The ceasefire, which was meant to halt hostilities and pave a way for negotiations, has been undermined by mistrust and strategic disagreements between the two sides. The Syrian army reports encountering stiff resistance from SDF forces who have entrenched themselves in positions across Aleppo, particularly aiming to maintain their hold on critical locations.

Aleppo, a key city in Syria, has been a focal point of the civil war, witnessing some of the fiercest battles and widespread devastation. The renewed fighting threatens to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis, putting civilians at further risk amidst already dire conditions.

International observers and humanitarian organizations have expressed deep concern over the breakdown of the ceasefire. Many warn that prolonged fighting could lead to increased casualties and displacement, complicating efforts to provide aid to affected populations.

The collapse of the ceasefire also highlights broader challenges in the Syrian conflict, where multiple factions with differing objectives complicate peace efforts. While the Syrian government aims to regain full control over all territories, various opposition groups and militias continue to vie for influence, often with external support.

As clashes intensify, the strategic importance of Aleppo remains evident. Control of this city not only provides a tactical advantage but also serves symbolic significance for all parties involved. Both the Syrian army and the SDF appear determined to assert dominance, leading to a potentially prolonged and destructive confrontation.

Efforts to re-establish dialogue and renew ceasefire agreements are critical but face significant obstacles given the deep-seated animosities and the fluid dynamics on the ground. International mediators urge both sides to return to negotiations and prioritize the protection of civilians amidst the turmoil.

In the meantime, Aleppo braces for continued instability with residents facing an uncertain and precarious future. Relief agencies are closely monitoring the situation, ready to respond to any surge in humanitarian needs triggered by the renewed conflict.

This latest development underscores the fragile nature of peace in Syria and the complex challenges in achieving a lasting resolution to the war. The world watches anxiously as Aleppo once again becomes a battleground, reflecting the broader struggle for Syria’s future.
