New Doctor Who Spin-Off Plunges into Ocean Depths as Ancient Foes Threaten Humanity

Humanity faces an unprecedented threat from the deep sea in an exciting new Doctor Who spin-off, “The War Between the Land and the Sea.” The five-part series will see actor Russell Tovey star as Barclay, an ordinary man thrust into the extraordinary role of humanity’s ambassador when the formidable Sea Devils emerge from the ocean to challenge civilization.

This marks a significant return for the ancient aquatic species, who first made their on-screen debut 53 years ago and were last seen battling Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor three years prior. Mbatha-Raw, known for her roles in “Black Mirror” and “Loki,” also has a history in the Doctor Who universe, having portrayed Tish, sister of the Doctor’s companion Martha Jones, during David Tennant’s era. Her transformation into Salt, the Sea Devil leader, involved extensive prosthetics, which she described as “just so detailed.” However, she humorously recounted that Russell Tovey’s dog, Rocky, was not a fan of her blue, transformed appearance. Mbatha-Raw described “The War Between” as “a wild, epic, thrilling adventure” that offers “so many compelling messages about the world we’re living in and what we can do about it.”
