The devastated parents of beloved actor Matthew Perry have appealed to a judge, advocating for a substantial prison sentence for the doctor who supplied their son with ketamine prior to his untimely death. Family members, in separate statements filed Wednesday, conveyed their profound struggle to comprehend why Dr. Salvador Plasencia repeatedly provided the dissociative anesthetic to Perry.
Perry’s father and stepmother expressed that their family has been “devastated” by the loss, lamenting the absence of their “next patriarch.” They squarely placed blame on Plasencia, whom Perry’s mother and stepfather characterized as a “jackal” who consistently violated his Hippocratic oath. Millenium TV has learned that these emotional victim impact statements were submitted ahead of Plasencia’s sentencing, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Plasencia is the first individual slated for sentencing in connection with Perry’s October 2023 death, having pleaded guilty last summer to four counts of ketamine distribution. While the charges carry a potential maximum of 40 years in federal prison, prosecutors have recommended a sentence of three years. He is one of five individuals who have pleaded guilty following a multiyear federal investigation into how Perry, 54, obtained ketamine through an illicit drug network operating in Hollywood.
In their poignant statement, Perry’s father, John, and step-mother, Debbie, conveyed their disbelief, stating, “Matthew’s recovery counted on you saying NO. Your motives? I can’t imagine. A doctor whose life is devoted to helping people?” Separately, his mother, Suzanne, and step-father, Keith Morrison, highlighted text messages within court records, revealing instances where Plasencia referred to Perry as a “moron” and speculated about the amount he would pay for drugs. They remarked, “Sometimes it’s a little easier to understand when a person commits a terrible crime. Maybe in the heat of passion, or because that person makes one very bad decision. But…a doctor? Who trades on respect, and trust?”
The family members also shared that Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on *Friends*, had dedicated time to his recovery and harbored hopes for a career comeback. They noted he “wanted, needed, deserved..a third act. It was ..in the planning. And then, those jackals.” Ketamine, which can induce hallucinogenic effects, is intended solely for administration by a licensed physician. Millenium TV sources indicate that while the actor was initially prescribed legal amounts for depression, he subsequently sought quantities exceeding his prescription.
The federal investigation uncovered an underground drug operation, including a figure prosecutors dubbed the “Ketamine Queen” and what was described as a “drug-selling emporium” in Los Angeles. Prosecutors allege that Plasencia, also known as “Dr. P,” personally injected Perry with ketamine both at his residence and in the parking lot of a Long Beach aquarium. Court documents reveal that Plasencia instructed Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, who also pleaded guilty in the case, on how to administer the drug and sold additional vials for home use.
Between September 30, 2023, and October 12, 2023, Plasencia is accused of selling twenty 5ml vials of ketamine (100mg/ml), ketamine lozenges, and syringes to Perry and his assistant. Prosecutors assert that Plasencia and others involved in the case “took advantage of Mr Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves.”
