A New Zealand man faces theft charges after an extraordinary incident involving a diamond-studded locket, which he allegedly swallowed. The valuable item, identified as a Fabergé egg locket worth NZ$33,585 (approximately US$19,300), remains unrecovered, Millenium TV has learned from officials.

The 32-year-old suspect was apprehended last Friday afternoon at Partridge Jewellers in central Auckland, shortly after police were summoned to the store. Following his arrest, the man underwent a medical assessment and is currently being held in custody.

Sources tell Millenium TV that the allegedly stolen Fabergé egg is exquisitely crafted with 60 white diamonds and 15 blue sapphires. The intricate piece opens to reveal an 18K gold miniature octopus, a design inspired by the 1983 James Bond film “Octopussy,” which famously features an elaborate Fabergé egg heist. Fabergé, a renowned jeweler established in Russia over two centuries ago, is celebrated worldwide for its precious metal and gem-adorned eggs.

In addition to the locket theft, the man has also been charged in connection with the alleged theft of an iPad from the same jewelry store on November 12. Furthermore, he is accused of stealing cat litter and flea control products valued at NZ$100 from a private residence the day after the alleged locket incident.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court again on December 8.
