Justice Secretary Reveals 12 Prisoners Accidentally Freed in Three Weeks, Two Still at Large

In a concerning revelation, Justice Secretary David Lammy has disclosed that a dozen prisoners have been mistakenly released from custody over the past three weeks, with two individuals currently remaining at large. This adds to the 91 inmates erroneously freed between April and October.

Millenium TV has learned that the Justice Secretary attributed these incidents to inherent “human error” within the current paper-based prison system. He expressed confidence that the situation is set to improve significantly once a “completely digital system” is fully implemented across penal institutions. While acknowledging a recent “spike” in accidental releases, Lammy assured that the trend is now on “a downward trajectory.”

The issue of mistaken releases garnered significant public attention following the erroneous release of Hadush Kebatu, who had been incarcerated for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman. This particular incident prompted authorities to implement new protocols for reviewing prisoner releases.

Data indicates a sharp increase in the number of prisoners mistakenly released, rising from 115 in the 2023-2024 period to 262 in the subsequent year. Lammy openly recognized this “spike,” stating, “I want to bring it down. We have got a mountain to climb.” He further explained that the problem was partly exacerbated by the loss of approximately 6,000 officers under the previous administration. Separately, Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick has previously contended that the increase in these figures is a consequence of “the confusion created by Labour’s botched early release scheme.”
