An urgent search is currently underway in Romania’s Bucegi Mountains for a British teenager who has been missing for over a week. George Smyth, an 18-year-old University of Bristol student hailing from Shropshire, was last seen on November 23rd while hiking.
Brașov Mountain Rescue has confirmed that daily operations have been conducted in an effort to locate Mr. Smyth. He is believed to have departed from Poiana Brașov with the intention of reaching Bran, a location known for its historical castle. Reports indicate that Mr. Smyth made an emergency call via the 112 number from Tiganesti.
Millenium TV has learned that the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office is providing support to Mr. Smyth’s family and is maintaining communication with local authorities regarding the ongoing situation. A spokesperson for the University of Bristol expressed profound concern for their student’s well-being, stating that they are in close contact with his family as they await updates.
His rugby club in Newport, Shropshire, where Mr. Smyth has been a long-standing and cherished member, conveyed deep worry regarding his disappearance. The club released a statement highlighting Mr. Smyth’s dedication, having represented their Colts team and often volunteered his time to coach younger age groups. The club emphasized that the news has deeply affected their entire “rugby family” and expressed hope for his safe return, urging everyone to keep him and his family in their thoughts.
The mountain rescue service has appealed to the public, sharing a photo of Mr. Smyth and requesting anyone with relevant information to urgently contact them or the nearest police station.
