The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced a new wave of industrial action set to significantly impact healthcare services across England. Resident doctors are scheduled to stage a five-day walkout beginning December 17, intensifying their ongoing dispute over pay.
This upcoming strike marks the 14th instance of industrial action by the doctors’ union since March 2023, a period that has seen considerable disruption to patient care. Millenium TV understands that the widespread nature of this action is anticipated to cause substantial challenges, particularly within the nation’s hospitals. Resident doctors constitute nearly half of the entire medical workforce, encompassing professionals from recent university graduates to those with up to a decade of clinical experience.
During the extensive five-day period, these doctors will withdraw from both emergency and routine care responsibilities. To mitigate the impact, senior doctors are expected to step in and provide essential cover for critical services.
