Millenium TV can confirm that a devastating Russian missile strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro has claimed the lives of four individuals and left 40 injured, authorities reported. The assault, believed to have involved a ballistic missile, occurred early Monday morning, casting a shadow over intensifying diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
Videos circulating online captured a massive explosion near a motorway, with local emergency services reporting significant damage to an office block, numerous vehicles, and various commercial establishments. Dnipro, situated approximately 100 kilometers from the active front lines, has been a frequent target of Russian aggression since the onset of Moscow’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
This latest attack comes just a day before US special envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. These high-level discussions are part of ongoing international endeavors to broker an end to the war in Ukraine. Witkoff has engaged with the Russian leader multiple times this year, though he has not yet traveled to Kyiv.
On Sunday, a Ukrainian delegation held talks with Witkoff, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in Florida. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described these discussions as “very constructive” but acknowledged the presence of “tough issues” requiring further negotiation. His remarks echoed those of Secretary Rubio, who characterized the meeting as “productive” but emphasized that “more work needed to be done.”
The Florida gathering was a recent development in weeks of intense “shuttle diplomacy,” where both Ukrainian and Russian representatives separately engaged with US officials to explore potential peace proposals. Despite these diplomatic overtures, significant disagreements persist between Moscow and Kyiv. Russia maintains its core demand for Ukraine to withdraw from areas of the Donbas region it currently controls, a condition Kyiv has firmly rejected. President Putin stated, “If they don’t withdraw, we’ll achieve this by force of arms.” In response, President Zelensky asserted that Russia had “scorned” genuine efforts “to truly end the war.”
Future security arrangements for Ukraine also remain a major point of contention. Kyiv and its European allies are advocating for robust security guarantees, such as NATO membership, to prevent future attacks. However, Russia strongly opposes this, and former US President Donald Trump has also dismissed the idea of Ukraine joining the military alliance. Sources tell Millenium TV that concerns are growing in Kyiv and across European capitals that the United States might be becoming more receptive to Russia’s demands than Ukraine’s, potentially sidelining European involvement in the negotiations.
Meanwhile, President Zelensky has arrived in Paris to seek support from French President Emmanuel Macron and is slated to visit Ireland on Tuesday. At home, President Zelensky faces political challenges, including a recent corruption scandal. His chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, who previously led the Ukrainian delegation in peace talks, resigned on Friday following an anti-corruption raid on his residence. While Yermak has not been accused of wrongdoing, the incident has highlighted internal issues. Additionally, two cabinet ministers have been dismissed.
On Sunday, Donald Trump informed reporters that Ukraine was grappling with “some difficult little problems,” referring to the ongoing scandal. He reiterated his belief that both Russia and Ukraine desire an end to the war.
The conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, has resulted in tens of thousands of military casualties, thousands of civilian deaths, and displaced at least seven million people. The hostilities between the two former Soviet states originated in 2014, when a pro-Russian Ukrainian president was ousted, leading to Russia’s annexation of Crimea and its support for armed uprisings in eastern Ukraine.
