
Chief Adviser of the interim government, Prof Muhammad Yunus today said that the first phase of the government’s six-month tenure has concluded, and with today’s political dialogue, the second phase has begun.
He made the remarks during a meeting between the National Consensus Commission and political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The meeting, which began at 3:00pm, was attended by nearly 100 politicians from 26 parties and alliances, according to Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
“Today is a historic day. Political dialogue with the National Consensus Commission has started, marking a preparatory phase for the discussions ahead,” he told journalists.
Quoting Yunus, he said, “The initiative to build a new Bangladesh through this dialogue has the full support of the people and the international community, including the United Nations.”
He added that a UN report has documented the scale of past atrocities, identifying those responsible and highlighting fundamental rights violations in Bangladesh.
