A 23-year-old New Castle man died after being shot at a Newport gas station Wednesday night, police said.
Newport officers, along with Delaware State Police troopers, were called to the Exxon at 20 N. James St. about 9:10 p.m. for reports of a shooting. There, they found the young man critically hurt.
The man, whom police will identify once family has been notified, was rushed to a local hospital, where he died.
According to state police, the shooting occurred after “two groups of individuals had arranged to meet at Exxon with the intention of fighting.”
During the fight, an “unidentified suspect” pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times, police said. They then fled in an “unknown vehicle.”
