NEWPORT, Delaware — A motorcyclist is dead after a crash on Interstate 95 southbound in Delaware on Sunday morning.
It happened north of Basin Road in Newport just after 8:30 a.m.
According to police, several motorcyclists were on the road at the time.
After reportedly accelerating to keep up with the group, police say one of the motorcyclist’s back wheels locked up, and he crashed into a guardrail.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as a 26-year-old from Douglasville, Pennsylvania.
Two motorcyclists refused medical attention at the scene, police say. No other injuries were reported.
I-95 southbound was closed for roughly five hours as state police investigated. The highway has since been reopened.
