Funeral services began at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 for Michigan State Police officer Daniel Kerstetter. Hundreds of MSP troopers attended the service.
Kerstetter was conducting a traffic stop of a semi on I-75 in Lincoln Park on Sept. 13 when his vehicle was struck. Police said he was buckled in his vehicle at the time of the crash. The woman driving the other car was killed. The driver of the semi truck was not injured.
Kerstetter was transported to a hospital. On Sunday, a decision was made to remove him from life support. His organs were donated, per his wishes.
Kerstetter joined Michigan State Police in January 2023. He was married and had three children.
Michigan State Police continue to remind drivers about the state’s Move Over law — which requires all drivers, when first responders, tow operators or anyone on the side of the road, to slow down or move over and give plenty of space.
Flags were lowered across the state on Friday to honor Kerstetter.
