DAVENPORT, Iowa — After the flood waters devastated the town of Spencer in northwestern Iowa, business owners in downtown Davenport empathized with their struggles. They’re no strangers to flooding, especially on River Drive, and many understand what it means to lose what they’ve worked for in the blink of an eye.
That’s why owners are holding a donation collection. Starting the week of the Fourth of July, businesses in the downtown Davenport area are collecting any items and supplies that could be of use to flooding victims. Matt Osborn, owner and manager of 1/2 Nelson, said that anything helps, from cleaning supplies to air mattresses. Osborn shared that as a community, the local business owners are very familiar with the experience of having people come to their aid.
Osborn said that donations can be taken to businesses such as 1/2 Nelson, Mississippi River Distilling Co. and Front Street Brewery in Downtown Davenport, and most of the businesses are in on the effort to send help to Spencer and other communities in Northwestern Iowa.
