OTTAWA, Ill. — Police are searching for the driver of a hit-and-run that killed a 25-year-old man who had crashed on Illinois 251 and was trying to get help.

According to the Illinois State Police, Jerome Johnson had been involved in a traffic crash prior to 2:30 a.m. on May 10th.

Johnson was able to get out of the crashed vehicle and was walking along 251 when he was hit and killed by a passing driver approximately a quarter of a mile south of North 36th Road in LaSalle County.

The driver did not stop and continued northbound, police said.

ISP is asking for any information that could identify the driver of the offending vehicle.
