Wright County crash leaves North Oaks man dead

The Minnesota State Patrol tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS a crash on westbound I-94 in Wright County has turned fatal.

An incident report from the State Patrol says a Chevy Silverado and Kenworth semi tanker collided just before 5:30 a.m. Saturday in Silver Creek Township. Authorities say both vehicles were headed west.

The driver of the Silverado, identified by the agency as 81-year-old Dennis Wendell of North Oaks, Minnesota, died. Authorities say he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Meanwhile, the State Patrol says a 60-year-old Spring Valley man who was driving the semi tanker wasn’t injured.

No word on what led up to the crash.

MnDOT traffic cameras, displaying picture in black and white, showed multiple vehicles with flashing lights in the area of County Road 8 and I-94 around 9 a.m. Saturday.

Information on the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 511 website showed westbound I-94 was temporarily closed west of Hasty/Exit 183, just southeast of Clearwater around 9 a.m. Traffic was flowing again in that area shortly before 11 a.m.

Troopers could be seen barricading ramps for I-94 at other locations west of that exit early Saturday morning.
