SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office responded to a box truck that crashed into an overpass bridge near Humboldt on Wednesday morning.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the accident happened around 8:49 a.m. on I-90 near mile marker 381, which is east of the Humboldt exit.
A 2020 Freightliner truck was traveling west when it entered the ditch and struck the bridge overpass of 457th Ave., which pinned the driver in the vehicle.
The 70-year-old driver of the truck experienced serious life-threatening injuries.
The bridge was damaged, and DOT engineers and staff decided to close the bridge.
The factors that caused the crash are under investigation.
South Dakota Highway Patrol also assisted on the scene. Traffic was able to proceed on I-90.
