Sikandar Raza has been named Zimbabwe’s T20I captain by Zimbabwe Cricket as the board announced the outcomes of the meeting they had on Saturday (November 4).
Raza’s appointment comes ahead of the T20 World Cup qualifiers next month as Zimbabwe aim to make it to the showpiece event in the USA and Caribbean next year. Veteran Craig Ervine, who was leading in all formats, will now be leading only the Test and ODI side.
The board has also decided to retain Dave Houghton as the head coach, keeping the qualifiers in mind and have added him to the selection panel as well with David Mutendra remaining convenor. Former skipper Elton Chigumbura has also been added as the third member of the panel.
Blessing Ngondo has been named the new chairman of the Cricket Committee with Hamilton Masakadza, Kenyon Ziehl, Russell Tiffin, Julia Chibhabha, Houghton and Chigumbura being the other members. Even though there are no changes made to the women’s cricket setup, the board has announced that there will be a review after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier.
