Bangladesh were given a little boost as ODI captain Shakib Al Hasan batted in the nets following his injury against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune on Tuesday. Shakib, who suffered a slight quad tear, batted for 45 minutes two days ahead of the match against India.
Shakib had to be taken to hospital for a scan right after he finished his quota of overs in Chennai against New Zealand. He was out training on Tuesday and even indulged in a bit of football, but soon left. He then emerged with his pads on alongside Litton Das to have a net session. He began by facing underarm throws from Faisal Hossain, who is assisting fielding coach Shane McDermott at the World Cup.
Shakib then batted against the spinners and struggled for a bit. He found his groove soon, hitting a big shot against one of them. Against the quicks, he unfurled drives and cut shots with authority. Though Shakib didn’t bowl on the day, he ran between the wickets under the observation of physio Bayzid Ul Islam and completed the session without any trouble.
Cricbuzz has learnt that he did not feel any pain after the practice session. “There is no pain at the moment and what can be better news for us than that? We all were concerned whether his pain would increase or not after batting or running between the wicket,” an official of Bangladesh team management told Cricbuzz on Tuesday,
