Virat Kohli will soon rejoin the Indian team, currently based in Thiruvananthapuram. He will be flying from Mumbai later in the night and will then travel to Chennai with the entire contingent on Wednesday.
According to sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Kohli sought permission from the board and team management to attend to a personal matter in Mumbai. A spokesman for the Indian team stated on Tuesday evening, “He will be joining us later in the evening and will be traveling with the team to Chennai tomorrow.”
Kohli would have missed the second warm-up fixture against Netherlands at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram had it taken place. However, the match had to be abandoned due to inclement weather.
As reported by Cricbuzz over the past few days, Kohli left the team and flew to Mumbai from Guwahati, where India had been scheduled to play their first practice game against England. Unfortunately, that game was also cancelled due to rain.
It is learned that Kohli has an important engagement with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the organizers of the World Cup. He will attend this engagement before flying to Chennai, where India will play their opening fixture against Australia on October 8.
The customary photo-up of the captains before the World Cup will take place in Ahmedabad on Wednesday and all the captains are expected to reach the city by tonight. The World Cup kicks off in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.
